THE NOMAD (NZ)
OAKLEY GRENELL, KRAFTY PIXEL
After three years inciting Australian dancefloors with his enticing melee of eclectic rhythms, Aotearoa's own prodigious son has returned and is now based in the creative and inspirational alpine town of Wanaka. As most travellers experience, he had to leave to appreciate the return. The traverse across the Tasman started with the "Perilous Times" two month NZ/Australia tour - a whirlwind celebration of Nomad's enigmatic new album. Since coming back from Melbourne Daimon has been catching up with old friends to collaborate on an impressive selection of dynamic projects. Summer was spent mixing 2011 Tui Award winner Amiria Grenell's new album, then rousing the dancefloors of his favourite Kiwi venues. He was then invited to be Music Director for the 2012 First Contact Wellington International Arts Festival opening night, working with designer Michel Tuffery to transform one of the city's most iconic buildings into a visceral canvas. Barely stopping for breath, The Nomad has recently mixed King Kapisi's new album, and is now fostering his new videography hobby, promoting music events, facilitating audio production workshops, dj tutoring, along with treating his fans to tantalising live sets at New Zealand's top festivals, parties and bars.
